Digestion
(of a precipitate)
An operation allowing the quantity and "quality" of a precipitate to be improved.
Digestion entails leaving a precipitate in contact with its precipitation liquid at a temperature higher than the ambient temperature, but lower than the boiling temperature of the precipitation liquid.
Digestion
(of a substance)
Digestion also mean breaking down a compound so that the concentrations of its components can be analysed, e.g. in the Kjeldahl method for nitrogen determination.
