Cathode

In an electrolysis cell, this is the electrode which is carries a negative potential.

Cations, which are particles in solution which are positively charged, travel towards the cathode, accept electrons, and are reduced at the cathode.

Hollow cathode lamp

Particular lamp used in an Atomic Absorption Spectrometer.

Anode

In an electrolytic cell, the anode is the electrode which carries a positive charge.

Anions, particles in solution which are negatively charged, are oxidised at anode by losing some of their electrons.
