Ion exchange resin
A polymeric material made up of a three-dimensional macromolecular network with ionisable active groups.
These groups can reversibly bind to other ions and hence lead to their separation.
There are anion exchange resins, which have quaternary ammonium groups as the ionisable groups, and cation exchange resins based on sulfonate or carboxylate groups.
