Ionisation detector
The common form of a detector used in gas phase chromatography (GC).
As they exit from the column, substances are ionised by passing them through a hydrogen flame. The ions thus formed are detected by the measurement of the ionisation current.
This process is non-specific and this type of detector is simple to use.
