An abbreviation for Mass Spectrometry.

This technique for determining molecular structures is based on generating ions which are then identified by their mass.

The initial molecule can be identified by rebuilding it from the various fragments that have been identified.

It can be coupled with chromatographic separation of the components of a mixture, i.e. GCMS.
