Precipitate
When a solution containing Ag+ ions is mixed with one containing Cl- ions a white solid is produced which settles out at the bottom of the container.
Such a solid is an example of a precipitate and arises because the solubility of the AgCl in solution has been exceeded.
Flocculent precipitate
A term used to describe a precipitate which is light and diffuse.
Over a period of time such precipitates spontaneously form larger solid granules.
