A bent glass tube filled with a gelatinous substance containing a salt, e.g. potassium nitrate in high concentration, functioning as a solid ionic solution.
In an electrochemical cell, a salt bridge allows affords an electric connection between solutions containing ions which might react, e.g. Ag+ and Cl- ions.
