Sodium lamp
This type of lamp is made up of a bulb containing sodium vapour.
When an electrical current is passed through the vapour, photons with wavelengths in the visible region (yellow-orange) are emitted.
The emitted light corresponds to discrete transitions and is thus ideal for spectroscopic measurements, e.g. measuring refractive indices of substances.
