Solubility

The solubility of a chemical species is the maximum quantity of this species that can be dissolved in a given volume of solvent.

Such a solution is described as a saturated solution.

The solubility expressed in the unit mol. L-1 depends on nature of solvent and the temperature.

Solubility product

The name given to the constant, denoted as Ks, which quantifies the solubility of an ionic substance in solution. For dilute solutions

Ks = [ aAx+ ]m [ aBy- ]n

Where [ aAx+ ] and [ aBy- ] are the concentrations of the ions of AxBy in solution.
