UV / Visible spectroscopy
The absorption of energy in the UV / Visible region of the electromagnetic spectrum corresponds to transitions between different electronic energy levels of molecules.
UV / Visible spectroscopy can be used to characterise and identify materials and products of reactions.
It is also used in conjunction with the Beer-Lambert Law (see this term) to determine the concentrations of species in solution.
This method has many applications in analytical chemistry, e.g. colorimetry.
